Fans turn out for 'Lost' stars

Advertiser Staff

More than 300 fans of the popular TV series "Lost" got a chance to see three of the show's stars in person today and learn many behind-the-scenes production secrets.

No one was giving away any upcoming plot secrets, but the panel discussion at the Dole Cannery Stadium theatres, part of the on-going Hawai'i International Film Festival, produced dozens of news tidbits to satisfy even the most die-hard fans:

Jorge Garcia, who plays Hurley, can't believe anyone thinks he's the same guy in those local KFC commercials. Michael Emerson, who was Henry Gale but now is Ben Limus, thinks the best villains are often very likeable, like his own character. Henry Ian Cusick, the Scottish-Peruvian actor who portrays Desmond, now thinks of Hawai'i as his home.

And that snowy scene of Pittsburgh on the show recently? It was really shot near Honolulu Harbor using tons of ice trucked in from a refrigeration company in the area, said producer Jean Higgins.

The event attracted fans from all over the Island and even a few who said they flew in from the Mainland.

"It was a great chance to get a little insight into the personality of the actors, to see and listen to them in person," said Debra Watson, a visitor from Knoxville, Tenn.
