Kapolei defeats Kailua in OIA football playoff

Quarterback Mason Koa rushed for two touchdowns and passed for two more to lift Kapolei over Kailua, 35-14, Saturday night in first-round action of the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red football tournament at Mililani stadium.

It was the Hurricanes' first postseason win since joining the Red in 2004. They get to play at East top-seed and defending league and state champion Kahuku next Saturday night in the quarterfinals.

"It's the toughest place to play on this whole island," Kapolei coach Darren Hernandez said. "I think in the long run, it's going to help our program. You can play Kahuku at Kahuku, you can play anybody anywhere."
