TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

World Series, 1:30 p.m., Fox. Admit it: Did you really think there would be a baseball game in Detroit tonight? The odds against that seemed infinite but here we are with the start of the best-of-seven series. This could be fun.

"Steven Wright Live at the Elgin Theatre," 6 p.m., Comedy Central. For a moment, you might think Steven Wright is just another comedian with a gimmick. Wright slumps around, mumbling. Then you realize this is no gimmick. This is Wright being himself, low-key and high-IQ. His existential humor is often brilliant. He's relaxed over the years. Tonight, we see a couple hints of a smile; Wright seems to even tuck down his hat to hide that he's laughing. But by then, the audience is laughing wildly.

Hawai'i's Second Congressional District Debate, 6:30 p.m., KHNL. Republican Bob Hogue and Democrat Mazie Hirono in their only scheduled face off before the Nov. 7 General Election.

OF NOTE

"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" (2002), 7 p.m., ABC. A rerun of this richly filmed and moderately entertaining movie. Harry is back at wizard school and is now regarded as one of the top students. Kenneth Branagh has a terrific turn as a self-centered new teacher.

"Jim Gaffigan: Beyond the Pale," 7 p.m., Comedy Central. This rerun may be the only hour good enough to follow Steven Wright. Jim Gaffigan has a droll brilliance.

"The Bourne Identity" (2002), 8 p.m., CBS. Matt Damon has no idea who he is, except that he was apparently on a spy mission and now people want to kill him. Adapted from a Robert Ludlum novel, this became a big hit. A third film in the genre "The Bourne Ultimatum," is due in 2007.

"Kidnapped," 8 p.m., NBC. Let's credit NBC for doing the honorable thing. Instead of canceling this show and abandoning viewers mid-story it moved "Kidnapped" to Saturdays and told it to wrap things up in 13 weeks. Tonight, there's supposed to be surgery for the bodyguard (Mykelti Williamson) who was shot. Since he saw the shooter, he might still be a target.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. In a rerun, a woman accuses her husband of molesting her younger son. An investigation finds the truth is even rougher.

"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. John C. Reilly hosts, with music by My Chemical Romance.
