Kaiser, Waipahu, Kaimuki, Waialua advance to playoffs

Kaiser, Waipahu, Waialua and Kaimuki clinched playoff berths in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Conference last night.

Kaiser and host Waipahu played to a 13-13 tie, giving the Cougars (6-1-1) the top seed in Friday's semifinals. The Marauders (5-1-2) earned the second seed.

Waialua and Kaimuki got the final two berths as the result of a tiebreaker.

Waialua played host Nanakuli to a 14-14 tie, Kaimuki beat Kalani, 34-0, at Kaiser Stadium and visiting Pearl City held off Roosevelt, 33-25.

Waialua, Kaimuki and Pearl City all finished with 5-2-1 records.

KAISER 13, WAIPAHU 13

Isaac Saffery scored on a 2-yard run as the visiting Cougars tied the score at 13-all, but Neil Paguyo blocked the extra-point attempt as the Marauders preserved the tie.

Trailing 13-0 entering the fourth quarter, Kaiser scored on Skylar Chan's 18-yard pass to Kahia Noa and Kyle Niiro's PAT to make it 13-7.

Matt Souerira scored on a 12-yard pass from Gil Fernandez in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead, then ran 34 yards for a third-quarter TD, but the PAT was no good.

Donavan Matas scored on a 19-yard run in the third quarter as the Bulldogs tied the Golden Hawks to clinch a playoff berth.

Waimea McKeague scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter and Keoki Kaeha had a 2-yard TD run in the third quarter to put Nanakuli ahead, 14-7.

Edwin Rubio's 6-yard run in the first quarter gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.
