Road rage case turns into murder investigation

Advertiser Staff

A late night traffic accident Friday turned into road rage and police have opened a 2nd-degree murder investigation. It started when a 34-year-old motorcycle rider got into an accident with a man in another vehicle about 10:30 p.m. on Sheridan Street.

The motorcycle rider got off his bike and walked over toward the driver, police said. At that point the driver put the vehicle into reverse, drove backward a few feet and then accelerated toward the motorcycle rider, ramming him before driving away, police said.

Police have no description of the driver, who sped away on Kapiolani Boulevard, then mauka on Piikoi Street.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital.
