Hawaiian Home Lands awards 350 leases

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands awarded 350 leases yesterday for the East Kapolei I project in the largest residential development in the department's history.Leases in the subdivision were awarded as an Undivided Interest Award, meaning the beneficiaries will be able to accept a lease award now, but have two to three years to qualify for a home loan.
It will be one to three years before houses are built, so beneficiaries will have time to prepare financially for a mortgage, according to the department.
East Kapolei I is a 97-acre parcel with lot size expected to average 5,000 square feet.
