University of Hawaii defensive end Melila Purcell and slotback/kick returner Ross Dickerson received Western Athletic Conference player-of-the-week honors today.

Purcell, who had three tackles for losses and two forced fumbles, was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Dickerson, who had a 61-yard kickoff return, was named WAC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Purcell, a 6-foot-5, 276-pound senior, made a crushing tackle on New Mexico State quarterback Chase Holbrook, forcing a fumble that linebacker Adam Leonard picked up and returned for a touchdown.

The fourth-quarter play helped propel UH to a 49-30 victory, the Warriors' fourth in a row.

Purcell had eight total tackles.

Dickerson, a 5-10, 185-pound senior, also had six catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns.

UH (5-2) plays host to Idaho Saturday at Aloha Stadium.
