A kitchen backsplash doesn't just have to be marble or Corian, according to celebrity designer Scott Sicari. Try these ideas:

  • Broken or abandoned china can become a serviceable and spunky mosaic.

  • Magnetic laminate combined with refrigerator magnets makes a backsplash that can change with your mood.

  • For a 3-D collage, combine favorite objects such as silverware and shells.

    CARPET STAIN? FIRST, TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS

    While there are a lot of chemical stain removers on the market, the Carpet & Rug Institute recommends starting simple: Use 1/2 teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent in a cup of warm water. Using a paper towel, blot the stain with this solution, then rinse lightly with warm water.
