Public input sought on protecting environment

Advertiser Staff

To get public input on how to better protect the environment, Gov. Linda Lingle will host the State Cooperative Conservation Listening Session from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Hawai'i Convention Center, Room 317ab.

The idea for the session came after Lingle attended a federal Cooperative Conservation Listening Session Sept. 7.

Speakers will have a three-minute time limit. Written comments may also be submitted.

In addition to Lingle, the "listening panel" will include Linda Smith, senior policy advisor, Dr. Chiyome Fukino, director of the Department of Health and Peter Young, chairman of the Department of Land and Natural Resources. Also attending portions of the session will be Ted Liu, director of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism; Rod Haraga, director of the Department of Transportation; and Sandy Lee Kunimoto, director of the Department of Agriculture.

Federal Cooperative Conservation Listening Sessions were held by the U.S. Departments of the Interior, Agriculture, and Commerce across the country to solicit and exchange ideas on incentives, partnership programs and regulations that can improve results and promote cooperative conservation and environmental partnerships.
