South shore surfers enjoying late season swells

Advertiser Staff

A high-surf advisory will remain in effect through 4 p.m. today for east-facing shores on all islands, the National Weather Service said.

But as the tradewinds decline through Friday, so will the easterly swell that caused the large surf when it combined in recent days with a north- northeast swell, the weather service said.

Wave faces on east shores today will be 5 to 8 feet through the afternoon and 3 to 6 feet late in the day.

On north-facing shores, surf like that barely raises an eyebrow, so no marine warnings there but expect wave faces of 4 to 8 feet today.

South shore surfers are enjoying late season swells. The tail end of the past weekend's swell is producing wave faces of 3 to 5 feet.

Storms in the southern hemisphere have produced enough waves to keep south shore surfers happy with moderate surf expected into next week.
