Society of Seven to be on Las Vegas Walk of Stars

The Society of Seven, the Tony Ruivivar-led showroom attraction transplanted from Waikiki to Las Vegas, will be inaugurated into the Las Vegas Walk of Stars on Nov. 28.

The ceremony, at 2 p.m., will be at the Flamingo Las Vegas showroom, where the group currently appears in matinee shows.

Ruivivar and Bert Sagum are original members of the band, which was a mainstay at the Outrigger Waikiki's Main Showroom for three decades. A spin-off group, the Society of Seven Las Vegas, is now at the Waikiki location.

"I am very proud to learn of this honor," said Ruivivar. "We have our roots in Hawai'i and our hearts in Las Vegas, so we are excited to have this special link with our performing home."

Throughout its Waikiki residency, the original SOS made numerous appearances in the gambling capital over the years, at such venues as the Sahara, the Golden Nugget, the Aladdin and the Bally. The group now features Hoku Low, Wayne Wakai, Roy Guerzo and newcomers March Escueta and Vince Mendoza. Philippines songbird Lani Misalucha also is part of the act, the first female in the long-standing male ranks.

Among those expected at the Walk of Stars ceremony are Mayor Mufi Hannemann, Frannie Kirk of Outrigger Entertainment, possibly Gov. Linda Lingle and Mendrei L. and Cecilia Leelin of Rosy Cheeks Entertainment Group, which produces the SOS in Las Vegas.
