Local songwriter pens tribute to "Dog" Chapman

Advertiser Staff

"Set the Dog Free," a new song about Duane "Dog" Chapman by University of Hawai'i Laboratory School graduate Matt Glickstein, is now available on iTunes. Half the net profits will go to the "Dog's" legal defense fund.

The song tells the improbable but true story of a good guy being prosecuted for capturing a bad guy.

"I hope that the message of and profits from this song will go a long way in helping to set the Dog free. Don't make him go back to Mexico," Glickstein said, borrowing a line from his song.

"You can link to the song from Dog's official website, www.dogthebountyhunter.com, and download it from iTunes, or go directly to iTunes and search for Set the Dog Free. If you believe that the Dog is a hero and not a criminal, getting the song and playing it to increase public support is one way to help."

Matt Glickstein grew up in Kane'ohe and lives in Los Angeles, where he works as an assistant to composer Don Grady, who is also known for starring in the long running TV series "My Three Sons."

Glickstein wrote and produced the song, sings back-up, and plays keyboard.

Chapman is presently out on bail pending a hearing on Mexico's extradition request. U.S. marshals took Chapman, his "blood brother" Tim, and his son Leland into custody on Sept. 14. The Chapmans are wanted in Mexico for capturing rapist and Max Factor heir Andrew Luster three years ago. The Chapmans could each face years in prison if they are returned to Mexico and convicted. Luster is now serving a 124 year prison term in a U.S. jail.
