Jeffrie Jones elected president of Hawaii Theatre Stars

Advertiser Staff

Jeffrie Jones, director of philanthropy for Hawaii Pacific Health, Straub Clinic & Hospital, has been elected 2006-2007 president of Stars, the volunteer support group for the historic Hawaii Theatre. She takes over from founding president Karen Huffman.

Jones has more than 20 years' experience in marketing and brand management, having worked at General Mills in Minneapolis, Bisculterie Nantaise in France and in the international division of Helen Curtis in Chicago before moving to Hawai'i. Locally, she has been director of general merchandise and director of marketing for Foodland Super Market Ltd. and vice president at Peck Sims Mueller. She was named 1997 "Advertising Person of the Year" by the Honolulu Advertising Federation and currently serves on the board of The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Aloha Chapter.

A Junior League of Honolulu sustainer, she also is a former board member of The Hawaii Nature Center.

Serving with Jones, who previously was vice president of Stars, are Sandra Johnston, vice president; Barbara Wong, treasurer; Mele Pochereva, recording secretary and Iris Iwana, corresponding secretary. Huffman remains on the board. Other key leadership roles this year are Renee Hampton and Betty Mastrantonio, nominating committee; Kathy Wright, membership administration; Tracey Stott Kelley, membership activities; and Jane Lau, special projects advisor.

Among the Stars activities planned are a "Stars Stott Stroll," Thursday in Chinatown, providing volunteers for such Hawaii Theatre fundraisers as the Chinatown Chase on Jan. 27 and the major fundraising gala in April, and attending National Philanthropy Day festivities on Nov. 17, when Mele Pochereva will be honored as the Hawaii Theatre's Volunteer of the Year.
