Scatter showers, weakening trade winds expected

Advertiser Staff

Scattered showers are in the morning forecast along with slowly weakening trade winds throughout the day, the National Weather Service said.

The high far northeast of Hawai'i is slowly weakening and moving to the east. Trade winds will be moderate for another day or so — about 10 to 20 mph — before this pattern will weaken them, the

weather service said.

The trades should be strong enough today, though, to bring some of today's rain over the mountains and onto leeward areas.

But the winds have created rough conditions in the channels, prompting the weather service to continue its small craft advisory. Wave heights in the channels are 10 feet with

rough conditions caused by winds and a continuing northeast swell.

A high-surf advisory remains in effect through 6 p.m. today for east-facing shores on all islands.

Temperature highs today will be 78 to 86 degrees. Lows tonight will be 68 to 75 degrees.
