East shores under high-surf advisory

Advertiser Staff

Surf on east-facing shores is still strong enough to prompt the National Weather Service to continue a high surf advisory through 6 p.m. today.

Waves on those shores top the forecast with wave faces of 5 to 8 feet expected. The tradewinds that boosted a northeast swell will begin to weaken, starting tomorrow, and that will cause the

easterly surf to drop as well.

But surf on south facing shores, where most spots have been receiving late-season south swells, is on the rise again, the weather service said. Wave faces on south shores are forecast to be 4 to 6 feet today.

They should last thorugh Monday.

Meanwhile, north- and west-facing shores should see wave faces of 2 to 4 feet today. A new northerly swell is expected Friday, however, and will increase through early Sunday.
