UH women's golf team takes second

The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team took second at its Kent Youel Invitational at the Kapolei Golf Club Wednesday.

San Francisco beat out the Rainbow Wahine for the tournament title, finishing with a 41-over-par 905. UH was six strokes back at 47-over-par, followed by UC Irvine and Southern Methodist.

UH shot a combined 314-291-306--911 and closed out the fall season with three straight top-five finishes.

SMU's Lacey Jones won the individual title at 3-over-par. She was followed by UH's Xyra Suyetsugu, Nevada's Melanie DeLeon and San Francisco's Jessica Potter.

Suyetsugu shot 77-72-73--222, 6-over-par. Dale Gammie (79-71-77--227) posted her second top-10 finish in a month, taking ninth at 11-over-par. Lisa Kajihara (81-77-76--234) and Carolina Perez (77-71-86--234) tied for 26th while Corie Hou (83-79-80--242) tied for 62nd.

Three UH players played as individuals. Nancy Shon (81-87-80--248) finished 76th at 32-over-par. Phyllis Lai (87-86-87--260) finished in 82nd at 44-over-par while Erin Matsuoka was 83rd at 45-over-par.
