BYUH women soccer on a roll

Emily Mearns and Jill Haar each scored one goal in the second half as Brigham Young-Hawai'i beat Grand Canyon, 2-0, yesterday in a Pacific West Conference women's soccer match at La'ie.

The Seasiders (12-3 overall, 8-1 PacWest) won their fifth match in a row. The Antelopes are 3-14-1, 3-3-1.

In other PacWest matches yesterday:

  • David Hague scored twice as the Grand Canyon men shut out host BYUH, 2-0. The Seasiders are 7-5-1, 5-3-1. Grand Canyon is 11-6, 6-1.

  • Christian Clemente and Akihide Adachi scored two goals apiece as host Hawai'i Pacific routed the Chaminade men, 8-1, at Windward Field. Andre Whitt, Michael King, James Gawel and Matt Martinez scored one goal each for the Sea Warriors (6-5-2, 2-3-2). Hale Metzger scored for the Silverswords (0-12, 0-7).

  • Lauren Dignam scored off an assist from Jamie Hirai with six minutes left to play as the HPU women beat visiting Chaminade, 1-0. HPU improved to 4-7, 2-5. Chaminade is 0-9-1, 0-8-1.

  • Erik Michon scored two goals to spark the Notre Dame de Namur men past host Hawai'i-Hilo, 4-0, at UHH Field. The Vulcans fell to 5-9-1, 2-6-1, the Argos are 10-5-2, 6-1.

  • Julie Loucks scored in the 67th minute to break a 1-1 tie as the Notre Dame de Namur women defeated host UHH, 2-1. Morghan King gave the Argos (9-6-2, 6-0-1) a 1-0 lead. Karen Weatherby tied the score for the Vulcans (4-11-1, 2-6-1) in the 20th minute.


    VOLLEYBALL

    GRAND CANYON WINS

    Tonya Rooth had a match-high 18 kills as Grand Canyon swept Hawai'i-Hilo, 30-20, 30-25, 30-25, yesterday in a PacWest women's volleyball match at Phoenix, Ariz.

    Taina Savage had 12 kills and Morgan Bonney 10 for the Vulcans (5-15, 3-8). The Antelopes (16-13, 7-7) beat UH-Hilo for the second consecutive day.

    In a nonconference match, Barbara Martin put down a match-high 25 kills as Hawai'i Pacific defeated Dixie State College, 27-30, 30-22, 30-27, 30-28, last night at the Blaisdell Arena. HPU improved to 6-14. Dixie is 12-12.
