Candle started fatal Oct. 15 house fire

Honolulu Fire Department investigators today determined that a candle started a house fire in Kuli'ouou on Oct. 15 that killed 81-year-old Masae Kiyota.The fire started in a back bedroom of a house at 256 Kuli'ouou Road where Kiyota lived with her sister, who was rescued from the burning home by neighbors Peter and Harris Phengvath.
The 7:41 p.m. fire occurred during an islandwide power outage.
