Waves to rise on north, south shores

Advertiser Staff

The tradewind swell that produced advisories for the last few days on east-facing shores will continue to drop today but waves on north- and south-facing shores will be rising today and tomorrow, the National Weather Service said.

A high surf advisory will remain in effect through 6 p.m. today along east-facing shores on all islands except Lana`i, the weather service said. Wave faces this morning should be 6 to 9 feet, declining to 5 to 7 feet by this afternoon. As the tradewinds become moderate, so will the waves.

But on south shores, a series of new swells will bring waves through much of the weekend. Wave faces will be 4 to 6 feet through today and increase tomorrow.

North shores are forecast to see waves of 3 to 5 feet today, but a new north swell is expected late tomorrow or early Saturday. A slightly larger swell is expected to arrive Sunday.

West facing shores will see waves of 2 to 4 feet today.
