Surf meets golf in new North Shore fundraiser in December

By Catherine E. Toth
Advertiser Staff Writer

In conjunction with the annual Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series on the North Shore, Vans will host the first North Shore Invitational charitable golf tournament on Dec. 7 at Turtle Bay Resort.

Shotgun start is at 9 a.m.

Proceeds from the event will go toward equipment for the Department of Parks & Recreation's Ocean Recreation and Junior Guard programs at the Hale'iwa Surf Center, which serves hundreds of youths in various programs.

The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing will donate a Boston whaler sport model boat, a Yamaha wave runner, and assorted equipment and trailers for each, worth in excess of $25,000.

"This is going to have a direct positive impact on our Ocean Recreation program," said ocean recreation specialist Kerry Terukina in a press release. "Not only that, it will open up programs we are looking to develop in the future."

For more information on the golf tournament, or to sign up a team, contact Allison Vick at Vans at (562) 565-8341 or e-mail her at allison_vick@vfc.com.
