Cal State-Stanislaus and Chico State will defend titles at the second annual Mauna Lani Resort/University of Hawai'i-Hilo Intercollegiate. The NCAA Division II tournament begins Monday at Mauna Lani's North Course on the Big Island.

Stanislaus beat Sonoma State by six shots to capture the men's championship in the inaugural event. UH-Hilo and Western Washington shared third. All four teams return. The 12-team men's field also includes Brigham Young-Hawai'i.

Chico beat the Vulcans in a playoff for the women's title last year, with Hilo's Jayna Shimomura finishing a shot out of first. Those teams, Notre Dame de Namur (Calif.) and Cal Baptist make up the women's field.

Chico recently beat Hilo by three shots for the championship of The Golf Mart/Lady Otter Invitational in Monterey, Calif.

The first two rounds will be played Monday, starting at 7:30 a.m. The final round begins at the same time Tuesday.
