Waimanalo band performed in India, moves on to Africa

Waimanalo gospel-rock band 7 Simple Pieces wrapped up a tour in India, meeting with AIDS patients, prostitutes and others trapped in Bombay's slave trade.

The band performed a number of concerts in the city, including at children's homes and in the heart of its red-light district.

These series of concerts are part of the band's Aloha Adventure tour, which began on Oct. 25. The group will visit Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi over the next two weeks.

"We actually used a pocket map quite a bit to show people where the state of Hawai'i is located," said 7 Simple Pieces founder and lead guitarist Jonathan Calpito in a press release. "From there we started talking about the concept of aloha and we even taught some of our sisters in India how to hula."

In addition to performing, the band was part of the filming of "The Beautiful Scandal of Amazing Grace," a documentary featuring such artists as Al Green and Ricky Skaggs about how people trapped in seemingly horrific situations can still find God's grace.
