UH targets electric usage in research lab

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i at Manoa Chancellor Denise Konan will unveil her plans Tuesday for transforming the Hawai'i Institute of Marine Biology at Coconut Island into a model of energy sustainability.

The lab uses more electricity per square foot than any other university building. Konan said cutting energy costs will help divert more funds to research at the laboratory.

"We committed to an ambitious plan to achieve our goals over the next several years, and we are serious about starting our work as soon as possible," Konan said. "Cutting costs is fiscally responsible, of course, but we want to be environmentally responsible as well."
