HPU's Steilen to be business dean

Hawai'i Pacific University has named Charles Steilen dean of the College of Business Administration.

Steilen, who recently joined HPU as a professor of marketing, will become dean effective July 1. Steilen held both faculty and administrative positions at the Chinese University of Hong Kong before joining HPU.

Steilen helped lead the development and expansion of the Chinese University's master of business administration programs and served as executive director of its Asia-Pacific Institute of Business.

"Chuck Steilen is a perfect fit for where Hawai'i Pacific University is going with its business college," said HPU President Chatt Wright. "Dr. Steilen brings to HPU a proven ability to grow business programs and to connect our students and faculty with our vibrant business community."


MANAGEMENT CHANGE FOR HOTEL

The Pacific Beach Hotel will be managed by an affiliate of Outrigger Enterprises Group, hotel owner HTH Corp. announced yesterday.

Pacific Beach Hotel Management LLC, a new entity of Outrigger, will take over management of the 837-room hotel Jan. 1. The hotel's 572 employees will be hired under the new management agreement. HTH Corp. will continue to manage the Pagoda Hotel and the King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel. HTH Corp. will also continue to manage the Pacific Beach Hotel's retail shops and garage.

The Pacific Beach Hotel is known for its indoor three-story Oceanarium, created in 1978.
