THINGS THAT GO BOO IN THE NIGHT

You're miles away from home, and the family wants to get into the Halloween groove.

What you should know is that Waikiki's main strip, Kalakaua Avenue, will be crawling with raucous party types on Halloween night (Tuesday), in creepy and occasionally clever costumes.

It's fun to watch the parade of revelers, but if you want to get dressed up as a seasonal witch or as Capt. Jack Sparrow of "Pirates of the Caribbean," go for it!

Best place to rent a costume: Diamond Head Theatre, 520 Makapu'u Ave., Fort Ruger area. Costume shop open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. through Nov. 1 to handle rentals; fees depend on costume selection; deposit required. 733-0277, ext. 2.

Best places to buy a costume: Wal-Mart, 700 Ke'eaumoku St. (955-8441); and Kmart, 500 N. Nimitz Hwy. (528-2280).

Best place for family trick-or-treating: Treat Street, 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday on the Great Lawn at Bishop Museum. Free, but donations accepted. 847-3511.
