Student badly injures himself at UH dormitory

Advertiser Staff

A 19-year-old man, who allegedly was involved in an earlier verbal confrontation with Honolulu police, suffered a critical hand injury early this morning when he punched a glass window at the UH Hale Noelani dormitory.

UH spokesman Jim Manke said the man is also being investigated for an alleged assault of another student on the third floor of Building C at the dorm before injuring himself. The man was taken at 12:23 a.m. to The Queen's Medical Center.

The injured man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, police said. In addition to the assault complaint, the man is being investigated for criminal property damage regarding the broken window.
