Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle today dedicated the state's new homeless shelter at Kalaeloa, which is designed to take in those who have been living on the beaches and in the parks of the O'ahu's Leeward Coast.

Lingle said the transitional shelter is part of her administration's push to work together with the community and other partners to find solutions to the growing problem of homelessness in Hawai'i. The ceremony was held at noon.

Wai'anae Community Outreach executive director Kanani Bulawan , Leeward Coast community leaders and shelter residents joined Lingle, Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona and Kaulana Park, Lingle's point man on Homeless Efforts Achieving Results Together (HEART) team.
