Longer rail route would cost $4.6 billion

Advertiser Staff

More details are being released about O`ahu's mass transit, including an updated cost estimate to build the original 28-mile route from Kapolei to University of Hawai`i-Manoa.

That longer route would cost an estimated of $4.6 billion, Mayor Mufi Hannemann said today.

Hannemann said it's up to the City Council to decide if the full route or a shorter, $3.6 billion route will be chosen.

The shorter route begins in East Kapolei and ends at Ala Moana Shopping Center.
