Horizon Lines third-quarter net jumps to $52.9 million

Horizon Lines Inc., the Charlotte, North Carolina-based shipping line that is the No. 2 cargo carrier of goods to Hawai'i, reported third-quarter net income jumped to $52.9 million from $3.2 million a year earlier.The increase reflects a change in the way the company's taxes are charged. The profit would have been $14.3 million in the quarter if the tax savings and a secondary stock offering were excluded.
