UH shifts offensive lineman to help fill defensive void

By Stephen Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

To fulfill the void created by injuries at the defensive end position, University of Hawaii offensive guard Laupepa Letuli today was moved to the defensive line.

"I'm just filling in," said Letuli, a 6-foot-4, 285-pound second-year freshman.

Jeff Reinebold, who coaches the defensive line, said the move was intended to allow Letuli to play this week if he can learn the position.

Ikaika Alama-Francis, the right defensive end starter, did not play against Idaho Saturday because of a strained lumbar. His status for this week is not certain.

Backup defensive ends Keala Watson (torn meniscus in right knee), Amani Purcell (hyperextended right knee) and Renolds Fruean (sprained right ankle) suffered injuries against Idaho.

Those three will not play in Saturday's road game against Utah State.
