Police said the SUV owner was walking toward it on Moanalua Road about 6:45 a.m. when he spotted two men inside rummaging through his belongings.

After a brief physical confrontation, the owner was able to subdue the man he caught and detain him until officers arrived and arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle. The other man remained at large this morning.

The SUV owner later found the steering column had been damaged and the ignition switch "punched," police said.
