  • Twenty-five year healthcare administration veteran Paula Yoshioka has been named executive vice president and chief administrative officer of The Queen's Medical Center. She was most recently associate chair of administrative services for the University of Hawai'i's John A. Burns School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. She has also served in Hawai'i and California state leadership positions, including Hawai'i deputy director of health; chief of staff under Lt. Gov. Mazie Hirono; assistant chief, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division; associate administrator of the Hawai'i State Hospital; and assistant superintendent in the Hawai'i Department of Education. At Queen's, Yoshioka will oversee hospital vice presidents who manage the hospital's nine service lines; the chief medical officer; the chief nursing officer; information technology; food and environmental services; and the Center for Biomedical Research.

  • The Statewide Independent Living Council of Hawai'i has named DARA Y. FUKUHARA chair of the board — at 26, the youngest chair in the organization's history. The council, the majority of whom are disabled, including Fukuhara, develops, monitors and evaluates the federally funded state Plan for Independent Living. It also provides support and technical assistance to the Independent Living Center, five community-based organizations run by, and for, people with disabilities. Fukuhara is a Communications Pacific account executive, former MidWeek magazine freelance writer and medical consultant.

  • FUKUYUKI "FUKU" PUCKETT has been promoted from broker-in-charge to principal broker for Herbert K. Horita Realty Inc. Puckett, who has been with the company since 1986, will oversee more than 50 sales agents.

  • Jeffrie Jones, director of philanthropy for Hawaii Pacific Health, Straub Clinic & Hospital, has been elected the 2006-2007 president of Stars, the volunteer support group for Hawai'i Theatre, taking over from founding president, Karen Huffman. The 20-year veteran of marketing and brand management, was formerly at General Mills in Minneapolis, Biscuiterie Nantaise in France and Helen Curtis in Chicago. Locally, she has been director of general merchandise and director of marketing for Foodland Super Market Ltd. and vice president at Peck Sims Mueller. She was named the Honolulu Advertising Federation's 1997 Advertising Person of the Year.

    Other officers include Sandra Johnston, vice president; Barbara Wong, treasurer; Mele Pochereva, recording secretary; and Iris Iwana, corresponding secretary. Huffman remains on the board.

  • ITC Water Management has named Harold Edwards president and chief executive officer, responsible for day-to-day operations of the consulting and design-build engineering company. He replaces Mike Farrell, who remains with the company as chairman, overseeing business development. Prior to joining ITC, Edwards served as senior vice president of Moloka'i Ranch since 1994, where he was introduced to ITC's work. The Hawai'i-based firm, with offices on O'ahu, Kaua'i and the Big Island, provides consulting and design-build engineering services for potable, nonpotable, recycled water and sea water systems.

  • With an eye on manufacturing the highest quality chocolate as efficiently as possible, Hawaiian Host Inc., makers of Hawaiian Host Chocolates, has named AHMAD YU director of quality and innovation. Yu will also oversee regulatory compliance matters. His goal is to shorten the time frame from the research stage to marketability. He was previously manager of quality assurance and product innovation. Also hired was PIA ANGELICA KAINA, former Meadow Gold Dairies laboratory technician, as the new quality assurance supervisor for all Hawaiian Host processing and storage facilities.
