Flood advisory for Windward O'ahu extended

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has extended a flood advisory notice for portions of Windward O'ahu through at least 1:45 pm. today.

As of about 10:45 a.m., radar images showed moderate to heavy rain along the windward slopes of the Ko'olau Mountain Range falling at the rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Forecasters said the rainfall has been almost stationary and is expected to persist for several more hours.

Locations in the advisory area include, but are not limited to, Hau'ula, Punalu'u, Ka'a'awa, Waikane, Wai'ahole, Kane'ohe, Kailua and Maunawili.

Runoff from the storm will cause standing water in low-lying and poorly drained areas, said forecasters, who are urging people to stay away from streams and low-lying areas.
