Kunia shutdown weighs on Del Monte earnings

Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. said it had a third-quarter loss, in part because of a costs associated with its scheduled closure of its Kunia pineapple operations in 2008.The Coral Gables, Florida-based company said it swung to net loss of $83.6 million from a profit of $5.7 million a year earlier. The results included $40.8 million of charges associated with the Hawai'i closing and a Kenya product withdrawal and disposal program.
