UH students' housing costs among highest in country

University of Hawai'i students face among the highest housing costs in the nation, according to a new study.

Honolulu ranks as the sixth-least affordable college town among 119 surveyed in the Coldwell Banker College Home Price Comparison Index, which compared costs for 2,200-square foot, four-bedroom homes in towns where Division 1-A schools are located..

The survey found students going to the University of Hawai'i at Manoa faced average housing cost of $858,750 for homes in the surrounding areas. Topping the list as least most affordable were Stanford in California as well as four other schools in Los Angeles or the San Francisco Bay area.

The most affordable college town was Tulsa, Oklahoma, where the average home price was $148,575.
