Police beat: Woman collapses, dies

A 42-year-old woman collapsed and died while partying at Nanakuli Beach Park at about 1:20 this morning, police said.

The woman was admitted to St. Francis Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The city's medical examiner's office did not release a preliminary cause of death or the woman's identity today. The case was classified as an unattended death.

Police say man, 23, tried to bribe officer

A 23-year-old man who allegedly attempted to bribe a Honolulu police officer in exchange for letting him out of a drunken driving arrest instead was arrested on suspicion of both bribery and drunken driving yesterday.

The man was in handcuffs at about 2:20 a.m. in Waikiki when he allegedly offered the officer an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

Woman arrested over stolen checks

Honolulu police arrested a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of forgery and attempted theft after she allegedly tried to cash two stolen checks at a Kalihi check-cashing business yesterday.

The woman was arrested at 4:45 p.m. on suspicion of two counts of forgery, attempted theft in the second degree, attempted theft in the third degree and two counts of unauthorized possession of personal information, police said.
