GiRL FeST Hawaii is back, this time with a roster of multimedia and educational events sure to satisfy every part of your body.

EYE CANDY

See artwork by 11 female artists in "Women Overcoming the Body" today through Sept. 30 at The ARTS at Marks Garage. The show's opening reception starts at 5 p.m. today as part of the First Friday festivities in Chinatown. The artists addressed issues related to the body, including serious illness, addictions, physical abuse and social constraints of gender.

ROCK ON

Listen to local underground bands Citizen Fury, Psycho Billy Cadillac, The Hell Caminos and Dolls Till Daylight at the Bands Against Violence Concert, 8 p.m. Sept. 15 at Anna Bannana's. Cost is $5.

SCHMOOZE WITH THE GANG

Join a Beach BBQ Potluck on Sept. 11 at Kaimana Beach Park to get to know the organizers and supporters of GiRL FeST. Bring your Frisbee and favorite foods.

SURF 'N' SEE

Paddle out with Girls Who Surf workshops on Sept. 8, 9, 16 and 17 for a confidence-building two-hour lesson. Cost is $40 for 18 and older, $30 for younger. Call 371-8971 or see www.girlswhosurf.com to register.

BELLY LAUGHS IN STORE

Laugh it up with stand-up comedian Ali Wong at Comedy on the Rock, 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at The ARTS at Marks Garage. Cost is $8. Wong, a San Francisco native, will be making her Hawai'i debut, joining Alix Olson and Pamela Means on stage.

HIP ACTION

Dance to the spun beats of Hawai'i's own Sisters in Sound, DJ Primmitiv and DJ James Vincent at the Closing Night Party, 8 p.m. Sept. 17 at Bar 35 in Chinatown. The event is free before 10 p.m., $5 after. But you've gotta be 21 or older.

'SHOPS! YES, WORKSHOPS

Learn something new at one of the GiRL FeST workshops. In WEB-FU (1 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Small Business Resource Center, 1041 Nu'uanu Ave., $15) learn how to design and manage a safe spot on MySpace. Explore the art of the spoken word at Speakeasy (noon Sept. 10 at The ARTS at Marks Garage, $10 general, $5 youth), a workshop headed by award-winning poet and writer Alix Olson. Or take part in Fest favorite Zine Making Workshop (10 a.m. Sept. 16 at The ARTS at Marks Garage, $5.

SLAM IT, GIRLS

Speak out at GiRL SLaM, the back-by-popular-demand, noncompetitive open-mike slam. The event starts at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at The ARTS at Marks Garage. You don't have to be a slam poet to participate. Donations accepted.

FLICKS BY FEMALES

See the cinematic skills of female filmmakers at the GiRL FeST International Film Festival, Sept. 14-17 at the Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Among the films are "Beyond Beats and Rhymes," a documentary about misogyny in hip-hop culture; "Barang," about college students in Cambodia; and "Awake Zion," a look at Orthodox Judaism and Rastafarianism. Cost is $6.
