MOTORCYCLIST, 74, DIES AFTER CRASH

A 74-year-old Hilo man died yesterday after a motorcycle crash in Hamakua, Big Island police said.

The crash happened about 11:22 a.m. when the man, who was operating a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, lost control when he tried to avoid a group of motorcycles ahead of him.

The man died at North Hawaii Community Hospital at 12:36 p.m. His name was not released last night, pending notification of his family. Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
