QB Chang released by Eagles

Advertiser Staff

Former University of Hawai'i quarterback Tim Chang and three others with Island ties were cut yesterday by their respective NFL teams.

Guard Toniu Fonoti, a Kahuku High alum, was cut by Tampa Bay, offensive tackle Wayne Hunter (UH alum) was released by Jacksonville and Lauvale Sape (Leilehua High alum) was cut by Buffalo.

The Philadelphia Eagles released Chang, who completed 27 of 53 passes for 287 yards and no touchdowns in five preseason games. Chang also had four interceptions.

The Eagles released 17 players and put two on injured reserve to reach the 53-man roster limit.

All teams had to reach the limit by today. Teams can add players to their practice squads, beginning today.
