The Mayhem championship era is under way.

Jason "Mayhem" Miller captured the Icon Sport organization's middleweight championship with a stunning victory over Robbie Lawler last night.

A crowd of around 7,000 at the Blaisdell Center Arena watched Miller take the title from Miller with a choke submission, 2 minutes, 50 seconds, into the third round. The bout was scheduled for five, 5-minute rounds in the 185-pound class.

Miller took several crushing punches from Lawler early in the bout, but worked his way on top of Lawler early in the third round. He applied a choke hold, prompting Lawler to "tap" — the signal for submission.

Miller improved to 17-4, including 8-0 in Hawai'i. Lawler dropped to 11-4.

The fighters exchanged punches and kicks in the first round, although Miller appeared to land more effective kicks.

Lawler controlled the second round, landing several hard punches to Miller's face and head. Lawler took Miller to the ground midway through the second round, but Miller managed to escape before the 5-minute round ended.

Chico Cantiberos and Sydney Silva won state titles to highlight the undercard.

Cantiberos defeated Kevin Delima by knockout in the second round to win the state championship in the 145-pound division. Silva beat Kimo Woelfel with an arm-bar submission hold, 4:15 into the first round, to win the state championship in the 170-pound division.

Hawai'i fighter Mark Oshiro had the punch of the night, knocking out Paul Gorman of Maine 20 seconds after the opening bell in a 135-pound bout.
