GOING VEGAS
Las Vegas Monorail to expand route

By Anthony Curtis

The Las Vegas Monorail intends to extend its transit system, with potential stations at the Hard Rock, Thomas & Mack Center, and two terminals at McCarran International Airport. Additional plans include connecting the station at Harrah's to the Sands Convention Center and building spur lines to the planned Echelon Place and the Stratosphere. The monorail also is in talks with MGM Mirage to integrate with its three unconnected tram systems on the west side of the Strip. The monorail now handles more than 7 million riders a year with a goal to carry 15 million to 20 million riders annually within 10 years.

STRIP REDESIGN: More transportation fixes are being contemplated by the Regional Transportation Commission, which proposes replacing the landscaped median along the center of Las Vegas Boulevard from Sahara to Sunset with bus-only lanes and express bus stops. The RTC designated this plan over a $1 billion rapid-transit bus line from North Las Vegas to Henderson. Completion is scheduled for 2014.

OPEN BAR: "Shag with a Twist" is offering an open bar with the purchase of a $55 VIP ticket through September.

Q. What is the opening date for "The Producers"?

A. Word is that the show won't debut until 2007.
