Congressional forum begins at Hawaii Theatre
Advertiser Staff
Candidates vying for a seat in the 2nd Congressional District tonight have begun their final televised joint appearance at the Hawaii Theatre, trying to fill the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Ed Case. With just over two weeks to go before the Sept. 23 primary election, the crowded field of 10 Democrats and two Republicans has no breakaway favorite candidate.
The format of the 90-minute forum gives each candidate five minutes to answer three questions and is designed to allow voters to compare candidates' positions on the issues, as well as the skill with which they answered the questions.
The KGMB9/ The Honolulu Advertiser forum is sponsored by The Pacific Resource Partnership and moderated by Advertiser political columnist Jerry Burris, PBS Hawai'i political pundit Dan Boylan and KGMB anchors Kim Gennaula and Keahi Tucker. An editorial board including the moderators came up with two-thirds of the questions. The remaining questions were submitted by high school students from the district.
The 2nd Congressional District includes all of the neighbor islands, as well as the outlying areas of O'ahu.
