60th Aloha Festivals calendar highlights

O'AHU

Today — Waikiki Ho'olaule'a, 7 p.m., Kalakaua Avenue between Lewers Street and Kapahulu Avenue. (See schedule, Page 18).

Saturday — Keiki Ho'olaule'a, 10 a.m., Pearlridge Center.

Saturday — Paniolo exhibit, museum hours through Sept. 17, Castle Memorial Building, Bishop Museum.

Sunday — Paniolo Sunday and Stew Cook-off, 11 a.m., Bishop Museum. With entertainment, games, food and crafts. $2 discount off regular admission with Aloha Festivals ribbon.

Sept. 15 — Downtown Mele, 6:30 p.m., Bishop Street between Beretania and Aloha Tower, and including the Hawai'i Maritime Museum.

Sept. 15-24 — Hawai'i's Woodshow, Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Sept 16 — Aloha Festivals floral parade, 9 a.m., Ala Moana Beach Park to Kapi'olani Park, via Ala Moana and Kalakaua Avenue.

Sept. 16 — Family Fun Day, noon, Kapi'olani Park. Arts, crafts, photo ops with parade floats.

Sept. 16 — 60th anniversary concert, 6 p.m., Waikiki Shell. $10 with Aloha Festival ribbon, $20 without.

Sept. 17 — 'Ukulele contest, 10 a.m., Aloha Tower Marketplace. Amateur strummers will compete.

Oct.13 — O'ahu Falsetto Contest, 7 p.m., Monarch Room, Royal Hawaiian hotel. Amateur singers will compete; some local musical favorites will perform. $40 regular, $55 premium.

Oct. 14 — Royal 'Aha 'Aina and Hawaiian Artisan Showcase, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5:30-9:30 p.m., Hilton Hawaiian Village. Watch artisans at work daytime; meal and entertainment at night. $70 general, $60 with Aloha Festivals ribbon, $550 corporate tables.

BIG ISLAND

Today — E Hula Mai Kaua, 5-9 p.m., lu'au garden, Outrigger Keauhou Beach hotel. Hula couples will compete.

Saturday — Poke contest, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Hapuna Beach Prince hotel. Poke concoctions will be available for sampling. $5 plus Aloha Festivals ribbon.

Saturday — Hawaiian crafts, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Hapuna Beach Prince hotel.

Saturday — Paniolo concert with The Brothers Cazimero, 6:30-9:30 p.m., Hapuna Beach Prince hotel. $20 general, $10 with Aloha Festivals ribbon.
