Motorcyclist killed on Maui

A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed early today on Maui when his blue 2001 Suzuki, traveling at a high rate of speed, slammed broadside into a black, 2-door, 2002 Mercedes Benz sedan making a U-turn, Maui police reported.Both the sedan and the motorcycle were headed south on South Kihei Road at around midnight when the Mercedes began the U-turn north toward Lahaina, and the cycle plowed into the car near the driver's side door, police said.
The man on the motorcycle, who was not wearing a helmet, was dead at the scene.
There were no other serious injuries.
Police said speed and alcohol may be factors.
