Escapee turns himself in at Hilo police station

Advertiser Staff

HILO, Hawai'i — A Hamakua man who escaped from Hilo police Wednesday turned himself in to authorities on Sunday evening, police said.

Konrad Ross, 36, surrendered at the Hilo police station at about 8 p.m.

Ross had been arrested on a warrant for violating the terms of his release on bail when he freed himself from hard plastic restraints and fled from the officers on foot.

Ross was being held yesterday at the Hilo police cellblock.

East Hawai'i Criminal Investigations Section detectives are continuing the investigation into the escape. Police warned that anyone who knowingly conceals someone wanted by police can be charged with hindering prosecution, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
