Big Island police today identified the 68-year-old man who died Sunday from injuries suffered in a pickup truck crash as Martin Knowlton of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.

Knowlton was a passenger in the 1979 Chevrolet pickup that ran off the right side of the road, struck a culvert and overturned on the Hawai'i Belt Road (Route 11) one-tenth mile south of the 54-mile marker in Ka'u at 11:25 a.m. on Saturday. Knowlton, who was ejected from the truck, died Sunday at 3:46 a.m. at Ka'u Hospital.

The truck's driver, a 64-year-old man, was treated for injuries at Ka'u Hospital and later released.
