State fast-tracks Army tab for H-1 mess

Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Transportation is rushing to put together a rough tally of repairs that will be billed to the U.S. Army, which last week damaged an H-1 footbridge and caused one of the worst traffic jams on H-1 in history.

The costs include replacing the pedestrian overpass, as well as personnel and equipment costs associated with closing down the freeway. The repairs alone are expected to cost about $500,000.

Designers and contractors were at the 'Aiea site yesterday putting together a cost estimate in preparation for the project going to bid.
