ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Cool jazz at Lewers Lounge

Advertiser Staff

One of the best free shows in town is Bruce Hamada, left, and Jim Howard at the Halekulani's Lewers Lounge, 8:30 p.m. to midnight on Wednesdays. Hamada, on his standup bass, runs through the jazz standards with his smoky voice — when he sings "Fly Me to the Moon," there's no doubt he's a Rat Packer manque. Combine the duo's smooth tunes with one of the bar's Dale DeGroff-devised cocktails — the honeyed gin drink Bees Knees is a comforting tonic — and you'll feel transported to 1960s Palm Springs.
