For the fourth year in a row, Merriman's in Waimea on the Big Island earned an Award of Excellence for its wine program overseen by cellar master Jim Lunchick. Thirty-five other Hawai'i restaurants received awards, including O'ahu's 3660 On The Rise and Maui's Pacific'O.

MOI FOR YOUR MONEY

FISH 'N' POI SALE BENEFITS HE'EIA FISHPOND

The folks of Paepae o He'eia (He'eia Fishpond) have been working hard for the past five years to restore and work the Windward landmark ÷ and will hold its first official harvest of moi on Saturday. In addition to the 'ono fish, local farmers will sell freshly pounded poi and pa'i 'ai, cooked lu'au, coffee and honey. Prices: $8 per pound for moi, $4 per pound for poi. The Moi & Poi Fundraiser happens from 8 a.m. to noon (or until the food runs out) at He'eia Fishpond. Proceeds go back into raising more fish and maintenance of the roughly 700-year-old fishpond. For information, call 236-6178.
