Broken main sends water gushing onto Palolo home

Advertiser Staff

Board of Water Supply emergency crews were sent to a home on the corner of 8th Avenue and Maluhia Street in Palolo this morning after a watermain burst, sending water gushing onto the roof of a house on the mauka/ewa corner.

The house is separated from the broken main by a concrete tile wall, which is deflecting some but not all of the water.

BWS workers managed to shut off the valve to the watermain at 9:20 a.m. The rupture occurred at about 8:40 a.m. and one point was spouting water about 25 feet in the air, pumping out thousands of gallons of water per minute.

The rupture caused gash in the pavement about 8x14 feet wide.
